I bought an Acer Aspire series laptop with authorized windows 7 home premium. Everything worked fine. Windows 10 was offered as a free upgrade. Post the upgrade the SD card reader is not working.

Tried the standard hacks like unhiding device folders, installing the realtek sd card reader driver etc. Nothing works. The USB device reader works fine and the flash drives open. I purchased a USB extender with multiple USB ports and multiple SD / SDHC and micro SD card reader slots. Even the Extender is not recognized by windows 10. Not sure why none of the community provided support responses work!!!

Let’s try with the below steps and try resolving the issues. Method 1: I suggest you to run the Hardware and device troubleshooter and check if it helps. Press the ‘ Windows + X’ keys and select Control Panel. Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter. Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Hardware and device.
Click next and follow the on-screen instructions. Method 2: I suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.
Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Right-click on the driver setup.exe file and click on ‘properties’. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select previous operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

Thanks Santanu. I appreciate your effort. This download did not work, and it turns out that it was one that I had tried last night, and it had the same results as today. Numerous problems continue. When I do install the software, all appears to be fine. When I insert a SD card that has pictures on it in another computer (win 7, 64 bit) all is fine and I can use explorer to view the pictures. When I insert that same SD card in my laptop, win 7 asks me if I want to format the card.
I close the format window and open explorer. Win 7 explorer tells me that 'the volume does not contain a recognized file system.' It doesn't recognize any of the pictures. A couple of times I was able to view what I thought were going to be the pictures, but was unable to view any pictures. Finally, and this has happened a couple of times, I've got a BSOD. The screen has disappeared so quickly I've been unable to view the dump information. But, I think 'memory management' was pointed out as part of the problem.

The laptop previously had Vista 32-bit as the OS. Honestly, I can't remember if I ever had used the card slot. I've searched many locations and tried many downloads, but it seems like this win 7 64 bit OS just doesn't have a compatible driver for the ENE Technology card. Anything else you or anyone else may have to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
