Hello, September 15, 2015 SUBJECT: PLEASE HELP.HARD DRIVE SLED MOUNTING SCREWS DON'T MATCH UP TO MY NEW 6TB SEAGATE ST6000NM0024 HARD DRIVE.HELP!!! I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro Tower.
I bought a new 6TB Seagate ST6000NM0024 hard drive But only 2 of the mounting screws line up (I can't remember right now but it's either the front 2 or back 2). I really want to use this drive internally, would it be ok to install this drive to the sled with only 2 of the mounting screws used?
I saw some guy on youtube, he had 4 of these same drives installed with the same exact mac I have, I messaged him and am waiting for a response. I just didn't want to have any problems with regards to tweaking, torquing or turning or doing any damage at all to the motherboard or the drive itself. My by the book friend told me if the 4 screw holes don't match up and if I can only get 2 screws to line up then don't use the drive. Other solutions I really prefer to avoid are having a professional fabricate/customize the sled so the other 2 screw holes match or buying an expensive eSATA or PCIe card or whatever to make it work at high speeds as an external HDD. Any advice or referrals would be GREATLY appreciated.
If ANYBODY out there has any experience with this PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! Thanks, Randy. Okay randy, lemme help you out a bit the mounting screws should line up okay. I'm presuming you're installing this with the power and sata ports facing towards the logic boards. Other than that, all I can suggest is that there are 2 sizes of mounting sleds, eg one from 2008 or earlier won't quite line up with ones from 2009 or later. I think one's shorter or longer. I don't think you need to have a professional fabricate/customize the sled or buy an expensive eSata or PCIE card or any of that at all.
It should just go in easily. Here's the official guide from Apple, Inc hope it helps you out John B. Okay randy, lemme help you out a bit the mounting screws should line up okay.
